Sub-process 3 - Define Properties

Purpose

Although the information under properties will not be printed on the shipping label, the FedEx system requires this information for their planning. Therefore, BC must provide information on package size so that API requests from BC can be accepted and processed by FedEx. If this information is incomplete or missing, it will lead up to an error message during API requests and the shipping label cannot be printed.

How to define properties

Option 1

If the height, width, length, and weight have already been defined in the item attributes (see Master Data Preparation), only one step is left: Fill in the currency and country of manufacture. The country of manufacture is needed for the customs declaration.

Option 2

The user can also fill in the properties on the FedEx Setup page. In case the item attributes are not defined, the default package weight will be forwarded to FedEx.

Attention

• The master data in the item card has priority. If the weights of items are defined as attributes on the item cards, they will always be forwarded to FedEx.
• The purpose of communicating item attributes to FedEx is to provide the estimated package weight, not the accurate package weight.
• In case the item attributes are not defined in the item card, the system will communicate the filled weight of packages to FedEx under "Properties" on the FedEx Setup page.
• The user will receive an error message if neither item attribute nor property is filled.
• Please fill in the required information completely. Any missing information will lead to an error message.
• Please pay close attention to the unit of measure during the filling of properties. Please use only the unit of measure that FedEx accepts.
